With the entire buzz about hybrid cars and their benefit to the environment, the question that many people are asking is is they really that great for the air?
The answer to that is yes and no. a hybrid car runs off of more electricity than gas, but you will still need gas in the vehicle in case your battery life runs low. If you can keep the car charged long enough to drive every day then you will be doing the environment a favor. There will be no smog emissions from the car, and you won’t be getting gas from a gas station, meaning you won’t be putting particles in the air. A downside to charging your car each day is that you are using energy form your home or from a charging station. The energy has to come from somewhere, and unless you have solar panels in your home, you will be using that energy from an electrical facility. The benefits of a hybrid car do outweigh the disadvantages, but you need to keep tabs on how long you charge your car and when the charge will run out. This way you won’t have to use gasoline in your car, which will be better for the environment than charging a battery.
